Manitous

The Ojibway believe every animal has his own individual gifts, unique talents and powers. Animals were chosen as personal totems by one who hoped to gain an animals' special powers through emulating that animals' behavior and characteristics. Animals have the ability to sense changes of the world, seasonal transformations and the coming of things. Man does not have this intrinsic, subconscious gift.
Crazy Horse dreamed and went into the world where there is nothing but the spirits of all things. That is the real world that is behind this one, and everything we see here is something like a shadow from that one."
