"In most ancient cultures, people believed that everything, even so called inanimate objects, had an indwelling spirit, and in this respect they were closer to the truth than we are today. When you live in a world deadened by mental abstraction, you don't sense the aliveness of the universe anymore. Most people don't inhabit a living reality, but a conceptualized one." ~ Eckhart Tolle ~ A New Earth
I'm in the process of adding individual photo galleries for each piece. At the moment they appear around my site in no particular order.
All pieces are approximately 20-23 inches tall.
Buffalo
Sustenance, Provision
Whippoorwill
Like Owl, Whippoorwill is said to be "a harbinger of bad news because according to one [Ojibwa] Elder, whenever people heard the bird, someone was either hurt or dead."
Lynx
Resolution, Fortitude
Dancing Loon
Loon is one of the original leadership clans of the Ojibway and is a totem of loyalty, dedication, and fidelity.
Peregrine Falcon
The Peregrine is the fastest living creature known to man, and is a totem of
speed and agility. The shirt piece on the Falcon is
based on the dress of an historic Canadian Chippewa chief and represents a
wolf's head.
21" tall by 29" wingspan
Northern Goshawk
The Northern Goshawk is an adept and aggressive aerial hunter of the woodlands. As a totem of Assertiveness, he reminds us to stay focused on our goal until it is firmly in our grasp, while at the same time deftly avoiding obstacles. He also tells us not to shy away from bold confrontation when the situation demands it. “Nice” would not be a word used to describe him.
Grizzly Bear
Strength, Defense, Protection
Standing Kestrel
As well as being a totem of perseverance, Kestrel also has the far-memory of recalling past lives. His animal helper, the Red Belly Snake represents wisdom and reincarnation as well as being the magic cord by which Kestrel travels to the soul world.
Arctic Fox
Fleetness, Wariness. His friend is a Gryfalcon, the largest of all falcons.
Great Horned Owl As
well as Nurturing, Great Horned Owl is a totem of Medicine, and of knowledge of
things unseen. He
understands that the invisible and hidden are often just as, if not more,
important than the blatently obvious. The design on
his shirt piece illustrates this dual nature. An Ojibway Spiderweb Charm
symbolizes a portal to this hidden realm through
dreaming.
Mountain Lion
Mountain Lion is a totem of
complete Self-Confidence and Self-Sufficiency. She has a great amount of
personal power which she
readily accepts. Others see her as a natural leader. Gathering sage in a
birch bark basket. Woodland floral designs. New
edition!
Badger
Badger is a totem of
Aggressiveness and Tenacity. As an antidote to passivity, Badger reminds
us that when our boundaries are
not respected, we need to burrow down in and get fierce! In the spring,
maple sap was collected and cooked in birch containers
over hot stones to be boiled down for syrup and candy for the little
ones. Eastern Woodland.
Bull Moose
Sustenance, Enlightenment Through Solitude
Blue Jay
As well as intelligence and
strong family ties, Blue Jay is a totem of warning, letting others know
when danger is
present or fooling them into believing so. A more colorful member of the
Crow family, he or she can also be a bit of a poser,
often trying to imitate the Hawk. Usually found where oak trees are
present, Blue Jay gathers berries and sage in a birch bark
basket. Eastern Woodland floral designs.
